Very Interesting!!
" You have a good team here. As a team, each one of you have his/her respective role to play. I ask that you play it well so that the MLNG team can win the game, and realize the championship! My role is as your coach – to motivate, challenge and encourage you. From time to time, I may also have to tick you off if you are not playing as a team player, put you on the bench if you are not playing up to the expectation or off-form, etc. All these are what I have to do in my role as "coach" and your role is to play the game well. In order for me to be an effective coach, you have to "allow me to play that role" and for you to play well you have to let me be your coach. Because while playing the game, you may not be able to see the big picture or the whole field !! We both need one another."

Christmas Caroling and stuff

yesterday all off the trainee gather together in the concourse level one administration building to have this meeting with one of the CEO in Petronas. Hence, we introduced ourself and later got this free lunch provided. The best thing ysdy was we went to plant (me, amir, ling, sylvia, ravi, loo and ammir) for taking sampling. Then, we lepak2 and pagoda.opps, b4 that we went to this seawater reservoir n lpg jetty.
on tuesday nite was the final nite of the english christmas caroling doing performance. Of course the final place will be in Tanjung Kidurong and ended in Rex's house (this fellow has lotsa controllers). My fingers got blister after playing 32 songs (4 songs for each houses and there was 8 houses altogether). The event was so enjoyable n alive. Uncle Alex was the driver and there were several cars drive in convoy towards the target location. btw, santa too joining the caroling and whenever there is a small kid, santa will be doing his job by delivering present n delicacies (not to make the children grow fat but yeah, so that that little kids will enjoy christmas too. Uncle Alex sempat also told his story about New Orlean. New Orlean consist of variety genre type of music where u can find ppl playing blues, jazz, rock. altogether blend in one community of N ew Orlean. Picture will be post soon.
Next is today is Hari Raya Haji. Yup, today is holiday. So just go for the open house la!!
Highlight of the HSE week

Here are the highlights of the HSE week
MLNG HSE WEEK 2007 : 10 – 14 December 2007
"HSE Is For Life" – this was the theme of the recently-concluded MLNG HSE Week that carried with it an important reminder to everyone across the organization.
Reiterating this message at the official closing of the event on 14th December, 2007, at the MLNG Auditorium in Bintulu, Encik Mohd Medan Abdullah, MD/CEO Malaysia LNG Companies, also congratulated the various organising committees for successfully executing the activities. He pointed out that the event demonstrated the deep commitment and full ownership of HSE matters by staff and contractors alike.
While he opined that to be successful, one has to apply one's knowledge and translate them into actions, he challenged everyone to use the knowledge gained during the week and to take the necessary actions to realize the benefits from such knowledge. He urged everyone to continue working together as a team as demonstrated through the various activities during the week.
A day earlier, on 13th December, Encik Medan had a Staff Engagement Session where he shared with the non-executives major highlights of the just-concluded Collective Agreement (CA) for 2007-2010.
In the morning of 14th December, he attended the session on the PCS result update presented by Encik Sulaiman Sahari, Senior Manager HRM.
At the closing of both sessions, he called on everyone to be positive, constructive and to maintain team spirit in the face of the many challenges and opportunities as highlighted during the CA negotiations, issues raised during the Q&A session and also those indicated by the PCS results.
He shared his thoughts and views by emphasizing that life is not all about having a lot of money when he spoke on the Total Remuneration Package. Rather, he advised that staff should be looking at a bigger picture of what employment with PETRONAS is all about and grab the abundance of opportunities that are presented by it. He also underscored the importance and need for a sense of patriotism in carrying out our duties for the Company and the Nation.
Cik Wan Shamilah, GM Finance, in her opening remarks at the closing ceremony of the HSE Week, highlighted the importance of the theme which makes an integral part of our lives. She shared with the audience on the increasing trend and statistics in the occurrence of chronic illnesses related to cardiovascular diseases. She opined that the HSE Week was indeed an excellent avenue to educate and inculcate awareness on HSE-related matters amongst staff.
Earlier in the week, at the launch of the week-long event on 10th December, Tuan Haji Kamari Salim, GM Engineering (who was also Acting SGM Plant during the period), shared his concerns on the number of fire incidences that happened in the Plant. Although no damage was caused to both human life and assets, he urged everyone to exercise extra care and vigilant and to continuously work towards enhancing the fire prevention efforts.
Tuan Haji Mazlan Mustafa, GM Technical Services, who also spoke as Chairman of the Organising Committee for the launching ceremony, reminded staff and contractors on the importance of the environment and the roles everyone has to play. Later, he handed over a potted orchid plant to Tuan Haji Kamari. The orchid symbolized the delicateness of the environment within which we live and the need to exercise our respective roles in protecting and preserving it.
Throughout the week, various activities were held which saw very encouraging response and participation from more than 400 staff and contractors across all levels.
Among some of the events were environmental and health talks by experts from within the industry, video show, hazard hunt, firefighting and wearing of correct PPE competitions, blood donation, quit-smoking campaign including nicotine level check, poco-poco morning exercise, photography on environment and recycle contests, crossword puzzle and dart of fortune, and a host of other interesting activities. Winners of these competitions walked away with handsome prizes.

Health talk and poco2 dance

the poco2 ended at 9pm and later there will be this quit on smoking talk delivered by one representative from Bintulu hospital. there was this joke about impotent (if u smoke like crazy, 20 cigarretes a day, this will b a high risk of getting this sort of "sickness". hei where a minute, not to mention, smoking symbolize style and action. but yeah, 4000 chemicals and one quarter of them is toxic will rotten up ur lungs, stroke n all sort of cancer. the nicotine is the main substance that make us very addictive n hard to quit smoke. ermmm, so whoever wana quit smoke, there will be this section where ppl from the bintulu hospital can help u to quit smoke.
Went to the immigration office forawhile to have this thumbprint for my passport. At 2pm, the HSE closing ceremony began where there was a talk too delivered by Dr Safiee from UNIMAS. he gv a talk about heart attack n yeay, he told us to eat only2 eggs per week to saty healthy and he mentioned about this CT scan which is located in Hospital Umum Kuching. The first ever has been used in the Australasia. The event dismished at 4pm after the speech given by Encik Medan. Aiya, the first time spend less time in the office and 90% of the time outdoor. love that social activities. met this new friend, jessy (donald friend too). Next week will be visiting plant on tuesday and i am looking forward towards that!!

Sharing thought and ideas from Mr Francis, the India chemical engineer

Today, i just work out on my ICON and try to find the composition of the liquid feed that enters the E90511 Pre-Heat Exchanger. And without realising that time goes so fast, i dashed out from the office (ANNEX 2) to the guard's house, just to get my new body pass. Aiya, still not yet done la. Cik Nurul supposely handed it to me today but, ermmm, she said again- next week la (on mon). btw, got to noe Jennifer to and a new friend Donald from Curtin Miri.
The best thing about today training is that i did not enter the canteen (for the first time), coz there is a free food for the TES12 who attend the sharing. Thanks for those who sponsor us wif that delicious tasty ayam masak merah, rendang kambing, and mix vege la.
Sorry no pic, but btw, hopefully i will take pic together wif Mr. Francis next mon. My supervisor (Miss Rose) is not around just now, so i am free la loitering around and lepak2 in the resource center before the sharing start.

Report from 26/11/2007 till 4/12/2007

Report (29/11/2007)
0730-0915
The process area comprises the following main units:
gas receiving and metering
-acid gas removal
-dehydration
-mercury removal
-heavy hydrocarbons separation
-fractional/stabilization
-liquefaction
The processes in MLNG and MLNG Dua are essentially similar. Natural gas from the wells offshore, after flowing through the slug catcher and the gas metering station, shall be treated in these process units to remove CO2,H2S, water, mercury and heavy hydrocarbons before being fed into the main cryogenic for liquefaction.
Before 0900
Slug Catcher (U100)
The slug catcher unit is used to separate the bulk of hydrocarbon liquid and any free water from the natural gas.
0920-1020
Gas Metering Station
The Gas Metering Station is designed to maintain a constant plant inlet pressure, remove any entrained and condensing liquids and accurately measure gas supplies to the processing modules. The unit also provides an emergency fuel gas supply to U4400 and U5400.
The facility comprises 4 identical runs
a) pressure/flow control station
b) a gas/liquid separator with SMSM internals
c) metering run
1020- 11.20
Sufinol Unit U1100
The purpose of the unit is to reduce the acid gas content of the feed gas stream to avoid freezing and corrosion in the liquefaction section and ensure that the LNG is within specification.
The design of the acid gas removal unit is based on the Shell Sulfinol process which is an absorption –regeneration process for the removal of CO2,H2S and other organic sulphur compounds in the NG stream.
A mixed solvent consisting of the following components is used:
50% wt DIPA (Di-isopropanol amine)-chemical absorbent
25% wt Sulfolane (Tetrahydrothiopene dioxide)-physical absorbent and antifoam agent
25% wt water-viscosity control
Process
a) Absorption of the acidic and sulphur compounds from the feed gas by both chemical and physical absorption. Take place in the Absorber column (C1101/2) at the feed gas pressure.
Absorption is a process whereby a substance penetrates into the body of another. Favorable conditions for good absorption
-high pressure
-low temperature
-good contact between gas and liquid
-sufficient solvent or high capacity
b) Regeneration of the Sulfinol solution which takes place in two stages:
-Flashing to remove co-absorbed and entrained hydrocarbons in V1101/2
-Stripping to remove absorbed gases from the solvent at reduced pressure and elevated temperature in C1103.
Desorption is the process of removing absorbed materials from the absorbent. Condition apply: low pressure and high temperature
Treated gas
Absorbed Materials
Absorber
Fat sulfanol
Lean sulfanol
Stripper
The absorber-stripper goes together. The absorber recovers components and the stripper removes them so that the sulfinol can return to the absorber in proper condition.
Dehydration Unit U1300
The function of the dehydration unit is to reduce the moisture content of the natural gas stream preventing ice formation and thus blockage in downstream equipment at sub-zero temperatures.
The natural gas leaving the sulfinol unit is approximately 80% saturated with water and the moisture content is reduced to less than 1 ppm on leaving the driers.
Removing of water from the gas is done in two stages:-
a) Cooling the gas against high pressure propane in E1401 A & B
b) Drying by absorption with regenerable molecular sieves
Mercury Removal Unit C-1351
The purpose of the unit is to remove mercury present in the feed gas to the liquefaction unit to protect the aluminium Main Cryogenic Heat Exchanger against corrosion. Mercury has been found to corrode aluminium rapidly even in trace quantity.
This unit is located downstream of the Dehydration Unit U1300 as the absorbent performs better under dry conditions.
Liquefaction Unit U1400
In the liquefaction unit, treated natural gas is passed through the Scrub Column C1401, where heavier hydrocarbons are removed together with some lighter hydrocarbons; subsequently it is in stages cooled, liquefied and subcooled through the main cryogenic heat exchanger (E1405), HP and LP Flash Drums (V1403 and V1404). The LNG is rundown using pump P1402 to the storage tanks (T-3101/2/3/4/5) where it is stored at atmospheric pressure and the temperature of about -161°C.
The liquefaction is performed with the help of three cooling circuits
a) cooling water
b) propane circuit
c) multi component refrigerant (MCR) circuit
MCR takes heat out of NG at the lowest temperature. Propane takes heat out of MCR and NG at intermediate temperature. The cooling water takes the heat out of propane and MCR at ambient temperature.
Flash gas generated in HP and LP Flash Drums removes heat from LNG in V1403 and V1404 and light MCR in E1406 and E1407.
Refrigeration power is provided through the operation of compressors driven by steam turbines.
The LNG leaving U1400 at a T = -161°C and has the following product specification
C1 86.5 mol% min
N2 1 mol% max
C4 1.8 mol% max
C5+ 0.09 mol% max
LNG has the following characteristics in storage and transport:
-By condensing, the volume of the gas is reduced by the factor of approximately 600.
-LNG is heavier than air at -136°C and lower temperature.
-By subcooling the LNG to a temperature of -161°C, the liquid can be stored at atmospheric pressure so that there is no need for HP tanks for storage and shipping.
p/s: my first day at work, a lil bit interesting-plus got this briefing from the HSE department. i.e-use the special mask while the alarm detecting a H2S leaking. more than 1000ppm of H2S in the air can lead to death (immediate fatal).
